So I went to an old friend for help. But, watching him, I stopped. Everything he sacrificed and I was about to ask him for more.

You know, he paused in going to Dean before he had any other options, before Crowley approached him. He didn’t want to ask Dean for more, even when it really was his only option and not going to Dean meant total failure on his part. He’d rather fail, rather have Raphael smite him, rather have another apocalypse than ask Dean to ‘sacrifice’ any more for him. He was being selfishly selfless. And not thinking clearly. Which is how anyone completely, deeply in love acts.
